Binh Khiem Nguyen (Kalim Nguyen): From Coffee Operations to the Kalim Ecosystem

The practical work behind a cup of coffee is shaping the Kalim project in Canada.

Binh Khiem Nguyen, also known as Kalim Nguyen, is the founder of Kalim Innovation Technologies Inc. and the person behind the Kalim Coffee brand. His work brings together coffee-shop operations and software for guests, stores, employees and business reporting.

Starting behind the coffee bar

Kalim began his coffee career as a barista at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in 2018. In 2019, his work continued at Black Bottle Coffee in Vietnam, where he was involved in menu setup and store operations. His journey then extended across larger coffee chains and smaller cafés, alongside roasting and staff development.

That progression from preparing drinks to organizing service informs his approach to Kalim: connect the guest’s order with the practical work of the team preparing it.

Learning beyond the counter

He travelled to coffee farms and roasteries in Vietnam to keep learning. Cupping, coffee processing, green coffee and roasting became part of that wider exploration of the work behind a finished drink.

Following the pandemic, he focused more deeply on researching how to improve coffee businesses as connected systems. He continued travelling to learn and brought his own coffee to share with people along the way. That combination of practical work, research and sharing coffee now informs the Kalim project in Canada.

Coffee production and the people preparing it

Kalim’s experience includes roasted-coffee production and directly roasting coffee. Alongside the product, he has trained employees in basic barista skills and more advanced techniques. These parts of the work are connected: a recipe needs suitable ingredients, and a team needs to understand how to prepare it consistently.

In the Kalim operating plan, the founder expects to participate in developing drink standards, preparing the team and assessing readiness before opening. Those standards will need to be tested in real Canadian service conditions.

Opening support in Calgary

In early 2026, Kalim supported Marius Dobré with the opening of Dobré Café at Westbrook CTrain Station in Calgary and with staff training. He now applies his experience in coffee operations and training to developing Kalim Coffee in Canada, its connected app ecosystem and voice ordering.

From operating experience to four apps

Kalim Innovation is developing four apps with distinct responsibilities. Kalims serves guests ordering drinks and following their orders. Kalim supports store operations. KalimStaffs supports the team. Kalim Invest provides a workspace for authorized investors.

The aim is to keep order information connected from the guest’s drink choice through preparation and pickup. Software supports the service workflow, while coffee quality and the shop experience still need to be demonstrated through actual operations.

A wider ambition for connected service

Through Kalim Innovation, he wants to develop a new service experience in Canada that makes everyday interactions easier and more convenient. Kalim Coffee is the first practical setting: connect a guest’s choices, payment and pickup with the work of the store and its team. Over time, he hopes the lessons and technology can inform other service experiences as the company grows.

The next chapter in Canada

The company is developing its apps and preparing the first Kalim Coffee location in Canada. Site selection, financing and opening arrangements remain part of that preparation. Opening dates and pickup details will be announced when the location is ready.
